Security boundaries for agentic interfaces
An agent should reason about a request, but the server must remain responsible for permissions and consequential actions.
A conversational interface may feel unified, but its security model should be deliberately separated. The model can interpret intent and prepare a proposed action; it should not decide whether it has permission to execute that action.
Server-side controls must validate inputs, enforce authorization, limit tools, protect secrets, and record the final confirmed operation. Prompt instructions are not a substitute for these controls.
This separation makes the experience safer and easier to test. The model proposes, the interface confirms, and trusted application code decides what is allowed.
